Exit Slip Frank McCourt
Frank McCourt had many inspirational views on inquiry as seen in his video. He felt it was very important to be a relatable teacher towards students. For example, he stated how he watched a video on Elvis because he knew it was important to his students. I feel this is a crucial part of getting to know students, and can be a very good way of building a path for a good student teacher relationship. He also felt that it was necessary to be on the same level as students. Some teachers tend to come out of school and begin to teach at a higher level than their students can comprehend, since it is what they are used to. McCourt feels it is important to understand that they are adolescents and understand things in a different way. He taught at many vocational schools, and always managed to treat his students the same no matter what their background was. It is very important to be relatable to students as well as understanding to their needs. He felt that it is also important to not take things too personally. Things can go wrong in the classroom at times and it is important to always be honest with students so they are able to feel more comfortable with you. The views that Frank McCourt mentioned could all be taken into my own teaching and I feel they are all important in regards to becoming an excellent educator.
